Episode 70 Of The 40cast
We tone it down slightly for Episode 70. In this episode we talk a little about Widmer Brothers quality craft brew, and especially call out the great Brrr Seasonal Ale and the Brewmaster Reserve series. We discuss a little gaming, movies, television and vent on our frustration with DirecTV canceling FX, Fox Sports and NatGeo channels on November 1st. The show wouldn’t be complete without a relationship topic, so buckle up and get ready for the ride!! Brew Buzz – 1. Why pour your beer into a glass?
LuceScrew’s Brew Buzz is a segment on The 40cast covering beer enthusiast topics…think of it as Geeky Beer Facts.
This segment can be found in Episode 61 Of The 40cast released Aug. 28, 2011.
The first thing I do when I open a beer is pour it into some kind of glassware…EVERY TIME, unless I am out at a party and the host does not have appropriate glassware (I will choose the bottle over plastic).
Why, you may ask…
When beer is opened and poured from it’s container, it changes slightly due to the release of carbon dioxide as it is exposed to the atmosphere. The beer is aerating as the bubbles rise from the bottom of the glass to the top. The “head” is being formed and is used to help trap the fragrant release of carbonation, providing a bolder taste and aroma to the beer. The beer mixes and these changes do not only alter the flavor of the beer, but also stimulates the brain through your eyes seeing the rich color palette of the freshly poured beer and your nose taking in the aroma…which in turn builds up anticipation for that first sip.
While in a bottle or can, these external elements are not as exposed. The bubbles rise, but typically escape out of the top without ever reaching your nose (no head to keep the flavor bubbles in, the last thing you want in your bottle is a big head!). When you drink from a glass, you lift the large open rimmed glass to your lips. As you drink, your nose is right there in the thick of the aroma, which enhances the entire flavor of the beer. This is the best way to get the most out of your quality craft brew purchase.
Also, contrary to popular belief, an ice cold beer is not the best way to enjoy quality craft beer. Cold beer numbs the palette (which might be good for most domestics) and dulls the taste. If you pour it into a glass, then the beer warms up quicker to an optimum temperature and in a few minutes you will have a great beer drinking experience.

Battlefield 3 – First Impressions
The mailman was finally kind to me and brought me my copy of this highly ANTICIPATED game. I couldn’t peel the cellophane off quick enough. I threw it into the Xbox (Denny no one plays the PS3 online) and loaded up what should be a contender for game of the year. Wait a minute…..hell I’ve been waiting all day now what….The 360 asked me if I wanted to install an HD Graphics pack that would enhance the definition to the “Highest of High Definition”…Hell yea I screamed at my TV. Ok now that’s done let’s roll. I figured I would start the campaign first just to get my Battlefield legs back on and in shape. Wait…..I get a please insert disc 2 message. Ugh dammit I just wanna play the game of the year….that’s it, is that too much to ask. Ok disc 2 in let’s roll. Ok here we go…..wait. Game updating…..Look if I have to have one more update I swear @#$%#@%^& (curse words of course) Ok now that’s done here we go….Surprisingly the game loads up and the campaign starts with the usual cinematic to catch you up on what Russian infidel is going to blow up this or that place and who is helping him. Your duty (if you choose to accept) catch same bad guy and we will interrogate you after and curse at you alot. I’m not trying to be a Debbie Downer but we all have played this campaign before. It was just a little more modern and full of warfare…..LOL Ok now I will try out the multiplayer….ugh WAIT…….WTF
Battlefield 3 ANTICIPATION

Ok, today is the day. Release day of Battlefield 3. As I sit here and troll the internet for reviews and first looks I find myself falling head first into the hype machine that surrounds this game. The video comparisons of the PC, Xbox, and PS3 get me so stoked that I can hardly wait. Wait…..I guess this would be the key word in my dilemma. The ANTICIPATION that sets in totally rest on the shoulders of my mailman. He has no idea what great deal of stress he is putting me through right now. I’m sure as he stops at the local 7 eleven to grab his morning coffee he’s not even thinking about the Amazon smiley face package that holds my solace. Well I guess I will play last weeks stressor (Batman) until he decides to show his face. After today I will try not to be a victim of the hype……well at least until Uncharted 3 shows up….LOL…….GloveBox
